Visit Teguise in the Canary Islands

Teguise which used to be the capital city of the island for a long time was given its name after a Guanche princess who was thought to have lived here with the nephew of the conqueror Jean de Betancourt, Colt Macchio. The historic buildings of the city center are Palazzo Spinola, residents of provincial government and the 15th century eclectic church of Nuetra Senora de Guadalupe. The beautifully redecorated buildings line tidy flowered streets. It’s worth visiting the place especially on a weekend when folklore and handicraft exhibitions are held here. The fortress of Castillo de Santa Barbara rises above the city. The white square houses of Haria in the middle of a palm grove inspire oases of North Africa. The village is a popular holiday resort. Its main square is the shady Plasa de Leon y Castillo with the Nuestra Senora de la Encarnacion at one end.
