Teresa Whitter: Many people think Salsa or believe that Salsa started in Cuba which is kind of have to we get some elements of Salsa that originated in Cuba but as it spread out through LA, and New York, and Miami, and different countries in South America, each country has each own called culture influences. Instruments will cause dances and what not so as this thing spread out, it just pick up, you know, whatever sounds that made of the country that it came and so.
Angela Hayward: The initial way that it was produced is still behind there. So, it can be put as a sultry and sexy dance. But you don’t have to have that close connection with your partner that you're dancing with.
Teresa Whitter: It’s definitely what you put into. It is definitely the mood of the music. How the music makes you dance. How -- you know how it makes you feel.
Angela Hayward: And you can definitely see there's tension on people’s faces when they walk and after they do their cross, you can see that all melting away.
Travis Gilbert: Well, we have an event here at the Albo Beach and this is Salsa Mania Friday. We have Salsa Mania pretty much everyday of the week and if you go to bermudasalsa.com, you can find out where we at each night. But tonight is at the Veranda Bar, Salsa Mania Fridays and we referred to it as a Celebration of Life.
You know, when you go away a lot of time you say, well, I want to go to a place where I can experience on what it’s like to be a Bermudian or what it’s like to be an Argentinean. And people --tourist always say, “Where do I go?” Like, “Take me where the locals go.” And I think that these events exactly what that -- that’s what they are. It’s a mixture of locals as well as tourists who are enjoying watching dance. If you want to just sit off and relax and have a good meal and enjoy good bottle of wine or you want to get up and sweat like I've been sweating.
Because I think it taps into a human emotion that I think people just like people all over the world when they hear something funny they laugh. Then they heard good music their body moves and rendered in a community of people who feel the same way, their soul smiles so I think that is just, it’s just a human consequence of what's happening. I think it’s happening all over the world.
Life is very short and if you live a long life. And you know like Michael Jackson says, “When you put that nine to five up on the shelf, enjoy yourself.” And I think that’s exactly what it is. It’s a time when we remember that that life is about a celebration. It’s about connecting with people. It’s about laughing from your stomach. It’s about really dancing as though no one is looking, you know. And that’s the message we try to deliver to everybody who has come in to experience.
Well actually, I mean for me I'm a lawyer. You know, I'm a corporate lawyer and we come from varied backgrounds. There's physiotherapist and engineers and a lot of different people involved. And I think that we really connect with that release.
Well, right now we’re going to dance. We’re going to dance until 12 o'clock and you know, we’ll have a great time. When they stop the music people will want to continue.
