Pablo Picasso, the most outstanding figure of 20th century modern painting was born in the fall of 1881 in Spain. His father was also a painter and it was he who discovered his son’s talent. Pablo was 18 when he moved to Paris with his friends and rented a studio on Montmarte. What was his secret? Lordly and poverty, larger than life and chic, joy of real extreme Spaniard, much of an exhibitionist and radiantly human. He could not live without love, writes his biographer and so it was. Among his many affairs, seven women became his real partners, his muse. Four children were born out of liaisons. His loves herald at new stages in his art. He like to paint portraits and nudes but he often put on canvas the destitute, the fallen, freaks, prostitutes and beggars. His most famous work though is political and inspiration: The Dove and Guernica.
