Visiting the Koricancha Temple in Peru

Early inhabitants of Cusco, Peru created a water temple whose source is the nearby Andes Mountains with a strong belief that the water had curative powers. To many locals today, it’s considered the fountain of youth. The water is channeled underground to the Inca temples like the Coricancha. A once extravagant water system now lies dormant.

The site of Coricancha is unusual. In that, it combines several architectural techniques and materials ranging to thousands of years in age. The original foundation stones can be seen here extending from the front of the building.

The Inca ruins formed the base of the colonial church of Santo Domingo. There are four temple rooms that remain in near perfect condition. Once the Inca empire’s richest temple, all that remains now is the formidable stonework.
