Female: Humalog is the brand name for Insulin Lispro. An insulin substitute used to treat diabetes which was approved by the FDA in 1996.

Female: Insulin Lispro is a prescription medication, which is available only under the brand name of Humalog. The fast acting synthetic product is almost identical to natural human insulin. Here is how Insulin Lispro works. The synthetic compound is made in a laboratory to closely resemble human insulin. When injected it passes into the bloodstream and allows blood sugar or glucose to be transferred into the cells of the body to be used as energy. These results in reduce blood sugar levels. The drop in blood sugar that results from synthetic insulin makes Humalog a good choice for treating type one diabetics. Insulin Lispro is fast acting which means it is start working 15 minutes after injection and picks half an hour to 2 1/2 later. It is best used in conjunction with the longer lasting insulin. Insulin Lispro must be injected and is sold them boxes of five disposable syringes. Dosages vary greatly depending on your doctors assessment of your insulin needs. Insulin Lispro should be injected 15 minutes before or immediately after eating to keep your blood sugar from dropping too much. Be sure to use a new needle and prepare your Insulin pen according to the instructions before every dose. Insulin injections can cause irritations or redness at the insertion site and can result in low or high blood sugar levels causing dizziness or confusion.
