The past two and a half weeks, I have received 43 emails regarding questions about Vocal Technique and Training. With my work as a vocal coach and with all the time I have been spending on my album. I just do not have the time to answer back all this emails individually. However, I do want to hope you guys are. So I have come up with solutions. Now, many of you have sent me messages saying that you would love to record the vocal chords one-on-one, but it is jut too expensive. I understand that. When you have other bills and other financial concerns, paying for voice lessons may not seem like a priority. But I do encourage you to invest in your voice of singing is something that you seriously want to pursue. So, if you have to put some extra money to the side and save or work if you have extra hours. I really do believe that it is worth it if you find a great teacher.
But, until you do, I decided to help you guys out by giving you a full vocal warm up routine. So, nothing else, you would be able to warm up your voice before performances and cool it down with what I am about to show you. So, you will be able to use this video anytime you want and sing along with me and help me guide you through a full warm up. Free of charge, just as my thank you for you guys giving me so much support. Because I really do appreciate it and this is my way of giving back. So let us get to it. We are going to start it off with breathing. Breathing is something that kind of puzzles a lot of singers and a lot of teachers unfortunately. Basically, when it comes to breathing and singing from the diaphragm you do not ever want to have to push rock hard abs are the enemy. You want your stomach to remain relaxed and you want breathing to be natural. You do not want to have to force it.
So I am going to show you an exercise which you can do before you do your vocal warm up that will warm up your breathing apparatus and get you ready to sing to your best. This exercise is designed to trigger your natural deep breathing reflex. After doing this exercise, you are just breathing only to sing. The way you breathe to sing will be the way you breathe for life. So would not have to do something special. Of course, I have to mention that there are many more, even stronger breathing exercises contained on my home study program if you choose to buy that at my web site for only $20.00, just had to say that.
Anyway, moving right along, all you are going to do is on the count of 3, you are going to make a loud, strong “shhh’s” sound as if you are emphatically telling someone to be quite like “shhh”, but really loud and really strong. So, I am going to go 1, 2, 3, “shhh” really loud and really strong. As strong as you can, until whole your breath is gone, okay. Now when all of your breath is gone, you just relax and let it come in. So, I will demonstrate it in one time. We will go 1, 2, 3 “shhh”, and then you just let the breath come in. Make this “shoo” as loud and strong as you can. I am not quite going with loud and strong as I can for the sake of the mike. Because I do not want to have all these feedback in your ears, but, loud and strong as you can without overly tensing the neck. So, you do not want your jaw to be overly clenched and you do not let your neck to be tightened either. Of course, your teeth have to come gently together to make this “shoo” sound and you got to push a little bit to make this “shoo”, but no excess of tension.
Okay, so, what I want you to do right now is I want you to pause the tape and do 5 to 7 “shoos.” All you are going to do is 1, 2, 3, counting mentally, 1, 2, 3 “shhhhh”. Until your breath is gone, and when it is all gone, just let the breath come back in. That is all there is to it, wait a few breaths in between and you should notice that your breathing is coming in deeper fuller and easier. So, one more time before you pause it, I will demonstrate again. And then I rest and I breathe normally for a few breaths and just let my breath be normal, and then I do it again. Really strong, really strong, really strong until all my breath is gone, and then let the breath come in, breathing normally for a few breaths and then do it again. That is all there is to it. Yes, it really is that easy, so pause the video and do it. Pause it now.
