Mauricio Balvanera: Welcome to app judgment Revision3's mobile phone application review show, I'm Mauricio Balvanera. And Voice Band is one of the applications that make you one to why one 2.99 application is so much cooler then other 2.99 applications. The concept is simple make a tone with your voice and Voice Band will replicate the note using one of its ten instruments. You can choose the power chord, a lead guitar, bass, saxophone two different synths and an organ. You can control percussion using combinations of hard and soft sounds. Each instrument has independent distortion, reverb or delay control as well as volume and optic settings. Auto pitch works the same as the infamous Auto Tune software, but keeps the effect of minimum for actual useful pitch correction.
You can have access to this pitch scale modifier under settings if you know what scale your song is. But back to the home page. If you want to play along to a song Voice Band allows you to load up a song from your iPod library, really cool. The real bang for the buck comes from the recorded tap, one instrument alone won't make for much of a song so in order to combine multiple instrument parts Voice Band includes a simple yet powerful recorded tab where you over dub yourself multiple times. You can synch your takes is in the built in metronome or play along to a song from your iTunes library, as you are about to hear, we will demonstrate.
All right its not all fun and off key games here, the app has a great non Apple like interface, a smart recorder and awesome save and load options. But creating over dubs along with a song from your iPod library is extremely difficult as there is no way to synch the parts when you have to hit record and playback separately. It's also extremely difficult to get anything that sounds great out of the app unless you have perfect pitch. Auto pitch helps buts it's set a little to tight and no I don't know if the song is using a pentatonic whole tone or mixolody and scale. Now it comes down to this, the app is a little too precise for casual use and little too imprecise for serious use. That said I'm giving the download judgment purely based on fun moments like this.
