Economical and eco-friendly like never before, that's the trademark of the Volvo model range the summer of 2009. The Swedish manufacturer continues its green campaign with innovative and efficient technologies. The Drive E diesel models are both frugal and low on emissions.
The C30 and V50 are now available with a 109 horsepower diesel engine including a start/stop function. In conjunction with other Drive E features, the consumption is lowered by 3.9 liters per kilometer. CO2 emission is down to 104 grams per kilometer.
The Volvo V70 and S80 are also treated to the 1.6 liter diesel engine and make do with 4.9 liters per 100 kilometer emitting only 129 grams of CO2 per kilometer. What's more? Both of these models will be offered with a new 2.5 liter flex-fuel engine which could be powered either by gasoline or E85 bio-ethanol.
Volvo's SUVs, the XC70 and XC60 will be equipped with the new Turbo diesel engines. Top at the range XC70 generating 205 horsepower and consuming only 7 liters, while the smaller sibling the XC60 requires a tenth of a liter less. The CO2 value for the multi-talented luxury model the XC70 is 186 grams per kilometer, while the cross-over XC60 emits 183.
For the first time the XC60 will also be offered with front wheel drive. This major offensive makes the Swedish car maker a serious contender in the battle of the green. All models and engines are already out in showrooms.
