Everyone welcome to Martial skill. I am Sean. Today we are going to be working on another chain style, this one is also handed down to your teacher from Sifu Brendan Lai and this is called the waist chopping palm technique from the Seven Star Praying Mantis system.
So I am going to bring Carlos out to help me demonstrate. This chain style is very similar to another one that we are going to show you later on which is the waist and palm chain style. Very efficient, straight to the point, very effective. Classic Mantis as Sifu Lai was very, very good at and very good in demonstrating that. And it's start with you want to get the hands up. So you want to make sure you have control both hands and so an easy way to do that if you have this front hand here, is to use block. Because if Carlos has half a range, he is going to block that, otherwise you are going to get struck.
You notice that I got both of his hands, and he is fairly crossed up right now. That's really good for me because that's going to play into my next motion which is I am going to collect his hand, this is a classic waist chopping palm or yin jarm technique now. I am going to collect from underneath, as I circle this hand around, I am going to attack, what they called yao which is the waist. It's the yin jarm which means waist, palm and I am going to use my 7 Stars footwork to sweep his leg at the same time. I can track him but I would either grab or sweep him with my left leg which is about to come up as I go to. Okay and that's how it going to go. And I do that with speed, that causes this to happen.
So again we will do it slowly, it goes one, two, okay. Again, one, two. Even if I use that slowly, come back up, it jacks you up. One he is really going - the problem is he is now, turn to the camera and show this, he is crossed up, as I am doing this. So this is why, if I get hold of his arm which is a good thing for me to do here, and I attack him, also I have to do is bring this hand to the center and at the same time, the key is I scissor around waist and I - here that's how it came through. So you have to be able to do this. You have to be able to go -- move a little bit. So this is the motion of yin jarm; block, collect, and so this is critical. You can do this in a very small amount of space. It's not a huge motion. This happens lightening fast; one, two, that's how quick it happens.
So you have to set that up. You have got to make sure you draw this hand. So if you do that, you are really going to hit him, which is fine too, and you are definitely going to draw the hand. One, two. So make sure you are getting that before you do anything else. Yes.
And then you can follow up. So we will show this one time in speed and even if you screw this up, the likelihood is you are going to knock your opponent down.
So here is the chain style by itself, very simple, really just two motions. We have - and it doesn't really matter if he is over from the first I might use for the heck of it here. Go one, blown full out, just draw that hand, okay, it's not a fake. If he doesn't block it, he should be striking. Two, is simply Ving Tsun. So it's feet, it goes, one, two. One, two, and that's it. I will show it from this side. One, two. One, two. Make sure that you get the sweep, do not just trap. Do not mistake this for Seven Star stance. It's a Seven Start Sweep at the same time that you attacked at the waist; simultaneous attack.
