Taniya Nayak: This window called use to go unnoticed by combining a costume fabric cornice,
roman shades and chocolate brown paint I’m adding warm to this entire room.
And all it takes is a $100 and half a day’s time. First step, the paint, I’m painting
around this window with the cornice is going. I tape this out so that paint doesn’t
bleed. Painting this area a dark shade will allow my cornice to stand out and add
depth to this area. I choose a nice red shade for brown and earth tone to
complement the other colors in the room. Next I’m hanging my roman shade; this
bamboo roman shade adds tons of texture. It complements the brown and
ultimately the fabric that’s going overhead with my cornice, its one part of a
complete package.
And hanging it only takes two screws; a cornice is simply a ledge of your window
in front of the window shade. This is the wood backing from my cornice I brought
my measurements to a local hardware store and I have done cut it down the size,
it will only cost for $20. I choose to make my cornice just a little bit longer than
the window it will extent out a couple inches on either side. This is going to make
a bold statement for the rest of the room, right now I’m cutting the bedding so that
I can wrap it around the wood this is going go give the wood some form so that it
not just fabric on top of wood. I’m also cutting it just a couple of inches wider
than the wood itself so that I can wrap it around and staple it into place. So that I
don’t get bouncy corners I’m going to trim it just like this. I’m just folding and
pinching the corner and then I’m going to cut it right on almost gives you a 90
degree angle.
With the bathing wrap I need to prep my fabric, I’m cutting out my fabric the
same layer I cut out the bedding. Only I’m going a little bit longer this time
because I want to cover up the bedding completely. Now I’m ready to staple my
fabric to the wood and I have a nice little trick where I can fold over the edge to
have a nice clean finish. I went with the solid because I’m competing again the
nicely chair, I’m using for a loop because it has a great texture but even better
than that is only a dollar 99 a yard. There the fabric is wrap and I’m ready to
install my cornice, to make it nice and simple I’m using in L bracket which I can
put to the back of the wood here and the under side of the inset, nice but pretty
sharp. Not only does a cornice hide the window hardware but it also adds a level
of sophistication to any room.
Pop the chair back in, adds some twinkling candle light and this corner has given
the entire room new life. This window cove use to go unnoticed but with some
paint, allowing shade and a new costume cornice this area is unforgettable I did it
all for under $100 and in less than half a day.
