Hi! I’m David Muhlbaum for Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. And I’m going to show you -around the Washington, DC, the number three City on our 2009 Best Cities list.
This is of course the nation’s capital, home to the Federal government. And right now, with the economy the way it is that government is getting bigger and printing more money. For the region which includes DC proper and chunks of adjoining Virginia and Maryland that’s good news. Along Tree Line K Street, not far from the White House is where many folks who want to get a piece of that money will obvious work and they have their expense account restaurants to match.
Since the biggest contracts come from the military, defense contract just like Northrop Grumman and Boeing have offices snug up close to the Pentagon just across the river in Virginia.
Over in Maryland firms such as bio-pharmaceutical developer, Human Genome Sciences take advantage of proximity to the National Institute of Health, Headquarter in Bethesda.
Tourism is huge. And in many cases like the Smithsonian Museums or just taking a glance where the President lives free. But private museums, the Spy Museum and the Museum of Crime and Punishment example have joined the mix too. There are neat recreational opportunities as well. The Potomac River provides a world class white water for kayakers as well as leisurely water pursuits. And of course we’re here too right in downtown Washington.
That’s our tour number three in our Best Cities list. This has been David Muhlbaum for Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.
