Bonjour [Foreign Language]! Welcome to another ravening episode of the Shirtless Apprentice I am Matt.
Today we are going to speak about audio the Podcast. First thing that you want to remember when you are recording audio for a podcast. Are you going have to what take in account? What camera you are using and what type of audio input it has. And that is going to help you to decide, what type of microphone are you going to use, or any couples you are going to need to bring the audio into the camera.
The next thing that you want to look at is the type of microphones that you are going to use. There are Shotguns microphones like this, Lavalier microphones, like I am wearing, and there are also hand-held microphones, like this. Each is use for a very specific purpose. Hand-held microphone, the direction is kind of straight up, you need to have it to close your mouth; you would not get interfering sounds from outside.
The Shotgun microphone is very directional, so Shotgun microphone is helpful, if there is sound nearby, if there is windows that cannot be close, if there are refrigerators, toilet flushing, traffic noises. A Shotgun microphone can help you if you are pointing in the right direction and you kind of keep out some of that extra sound.
Lavalier microphone is very useful. If a person is going to be moving around and you cannot keep the microphone on them, you can use a wireless transmitter to your mixer or to the camera and the person can be movable, and you could still capture, just their audio. But if there are lots of outside noise Lavilier microphone, mid directional, picks up all the noise and all directions. So from there, you need to decide whether you are not tom use a mixerso what is going to help you decide that is how many microphones you are going to use, and how many people you are going to be recording. So if you only have two people, you do not need more than two microphones most likely. If you have more than two people, you might need more than two microphones and if that happens, you are going to need a mixer, to mix them together before you are going to the camera.
The mixer is going to allow you on the fly while you are recording to change the levels. Mixers are going to allow you on the fly to change levels, and to direct each microphones sound to either the right or the left channel. So that brings you to other point, where you have to decide. You need to decide what microphone is going to be mixed with another microphone, and maybe which one will you keep isolated. There are many things that take into an account like, who speaks the loudest, because that is going on the mics, even if you isolate to one channel or the other. Also maybe as you are listening on the fly, what mics are you getting into interference, you know, it just gives you an extra option to keep someone sound isolated.
The next pretty much what you need to know about audio for Podcasting. I am Matt, and this is been the Shirtless Apprentice.
