Colin Cowie is a celebrity wedding planner and he’s also the author of Wedding Chic. He’s here to give us all the inside scoop on the hottest trends in the wedding industry right now and also tell us how you come up with some of these creative ideas because I never would have thought about this at all.
Colin Cowie: I’ve never done the same thing twice.
Audra Lowe: Never done it twice.
Colin Cowie: There is no reason to. Every day is a new day.
Audra Lowe: So I think I know the answer to this question, you work with such big names in the business in terms of entertainment is concern. You met, no day is alike at all but do you have one favorite celebrity that you love working with wedding wise?
Colin Cowie: If you know it’s interesting, it’s always the next wedding.
Audra Lowe: It is.
Colin Cowie: So to get to my heart, is next to my fashion to the city.
Audra Lowe: So today we’re going to talk about.
Colin Cowie: And we just finished Lisa Milano’s wedding which is a fun wedding.
Audra Lowe: Yeah.
Colin Cowie: We have done that into Country chic, which I probably enjoyed.
Audra Lowe: That must have been exciting too.
Colin Cowie: Yeah, it was beautiful.
Audra Lowe: And I know you’re a busy guy, busy guy. So today we’re going to talk about the table settings and the décor, the newest trends that are out there. Let’s talk about something s that you’ve come up with here.
Colin Cowie: Well, they are always looking for ideas to save money but to keep it chic and to keep it elegant so without using a huge big table arrangement of flowers, one could use the idea width cross, pick one color and run with it. The width glass, the bright green table plus work well or maybe match with glass to give their idea of maybe using a piece of sculpture on the middle of the table so it becomes a focal point.
Audra Lowe: And these are ideas too that are budget friendly, they were always hopping about that right?
Colin Cowie: It’s very budget friendly. Or if you’re doing something a bit more opulent and traditional bowls of beautiful sugared fruit. A bit one will contain. We’re mixing things like blackberries and lamps on the table. It becomes very focal and very visual. Banquet tables, long tables are very big trend today as well. We’re in this one particular instance, we’re looking at now the whole idea is racing with watermelon and mango became the color scheme. So using a runner to do more space down the center of the table, we folded with wooden boxes that were covered with fabric dupion is like a $6.00 a yard.
Audra Lowe: That’s amazing at the wood.
Colin Cowie: Yeah. Yeah and then we took a very inexpensive flower like daisies and we used lot of them just in the pink and just in the orange.
Audra Lowe: That is gorgeous.
Colin Cowie: And look how incredibly decorative and beautiful and glamorous that was.
Audra Lowe: And no one would ever know that that’s how spend on it. Okay.
Colin Cowie: Not at all. Because you know, it’s not about the cost of what you do. It’s about how you put it all together.
Audra Lowe: Exactly. The presentation and speaking of presentation, a lot of people are changing up the way they do the reception sometimes skipping them and having a little after party, right?
Colin Cowie: Correct. The big deal with wedding reception has to ceremony, cocktails, dinner and then move to another destination for the after party.
Audra Lowe: Okay yeah, yeah.
Colin Cowie: And that’s where you have a good time.
Audra Lowe: Look at that those are beautiful. I like that.
Colin Cowie: Isn’t that beautiful and it’s a series of white surface and things which you can find pretty much anywhere today. The big chimera Chinese lanterns.
Audra Lowe: Right.
Colin Cowie: And the other thing you could do if you are in a budget, just jump straight to the after party.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Colin Cowie: Forget the cocktail receptions, forget the dinner, have a fun after party; so fruit, appetizer, maybe some of the desserts station too, some of the big trend that we’re seeing today.
Audra Lowe: Yeah and a lot of people are always focusing on the DJ but you say now it’s the mixologist.
Colin Cowie: Oh now it’s all about the mixologist. The mixologist is like the new rock star of the wedding you know.
Audra Lowe: Okay.
Colin Cowie: Instead of serving expensive French champagne, have a good looking mixologist, shaking drinks for you, coming up with a couple signature cocktails.
Audra Lowe: Right.
Colin Cowie: I love the idea of making shooters that they can put in test tubes and serve this in the dance floor so it keeps everybody going and keeps the party in a half a minute.
Audra Lowe: Right.
Colin Cowie: And there the idea we can actually that I do personalize it even put a beautiful picture frame on the bar and get to match the names of your bridesmaid to the names of your cocktails and finally when food, the idea of pairing ideas like taking this woman into fish taco and putting it together with little margarita.
Audra Lowe: Yeah.
Colin Cowie: Or maybe a bit of red wine and some prosciutto. That’s more pairing small taste.
Audra Lowe: Always something different at every single wedding that you plan right?
Colin Cowie: There’s no reason to the same thing twice.
Audra Lowe: There isn’t.
Colin Cowie: The whole world up there.
Audra Lowe: Thank you so much Colin, good luck to you congratulations on the book too.
Colin Cowie: Thank you.
