George: Sue, an incredible array of flowers behind us here. A little bit of spring feel what’s the purpose for?
Sue Barnes: Yeah, very much so. It’s very important to get the season into the flowers for cost point of view as well as a look and it’s very fresh, it’s very vibrant, it’s very powerful. And if you use things from the outside, it brings the outside into the venue that you are decorating.
George: Do you find that people come to you with your actual color scheme in mind or do you generally start from scratch?
Sue Barnes: I ask them what they like, what they dislike and sometimes they don’t have an idea that 7 years ago it may have made sense but now it makes no sense whatsoever. And than what they have chosen to wear and the venue that they’ve chosen to get married in. And that generally, they are coming to me to ask for kind of explain what they would like so it is very much what star would work what’s in season, what looks absolutely fantastic.
George: So behind us, Sue; we’ve got flowers, we’ve got cut rimmed kind of like the glasses and so many things. What ornaments are there to make up a perfect table display?
Sue Barnes: If you look at the table you’ve a got a bare table here and you’ve got bare chairs so are you going to cover the table in, what textures are you going to go for, what colors obviously; the chairs so you can leave them with sort of rustic wood or are you going to cover them over with anything. Then when you get on to the table, it’s the choice of cutlery, crockery glass ware and now you are going to go for contemporary feel or for more traditional feel. I mean it’s making the whole lot work together.
George: Today, I do actually quite fancy creating something rather spectacular. Big flowers, big statement; do you think we can do that?
Sue Barnes: We can definitely do that and it’s absolutely a great idea.
Okay George, the first thing to do is to choose your table linen. That will clean everything up and give you the correct feel.
George: A base to start with.
Sue Barnes: Yup.
George: Excellent, okay. Well, obviously we’ve got this spring feel going in so part, we should follow through with the cream and this sort of rich green as well.
Sue Barnes: Yup, that’s true.
George: So maybe use the white as a base and little touched of green because otherwise, I think it would be too much. What do you think?
Sue Barnes: Definitely, we can pull that through the napkins. We can pull it through the flowers and if you give yourself a clean blank canvass I think that’ll be great.
George: This is getting you the expert agrees with me, fantastic.
Next up is the chairs and we have this gorgeous covers to put on them. Let’s see how I get on.
Sue Barnes: Doing well.
George: That’s not too bad. They’re quite tight.
Sue Barnes: Yeah, looks like a totally different table now; really, really smart.
George: One down, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven to go.
Sue Barnes: Fun.
George: So Sue, what’s the most high profile that you ever worked on?
Sue Barnes: I guess it would have to be Prince Edward and Saint Ferris Jones. So that was…
George: Of all wedding.
Sue Barnes: Pretty spectacular. It was fantastic with about two days to set up but it was still really whole day and we put together huge great design and one was a almost 25 ft high and it was a little bit wobbly when we started off so we have to put some scaffold pole on the center of it otherwise we will another hole on the royal family in one hit and it would not be good for business.
This is the scary part.
George: This is quite scary isn’t it? Oh my gosh.
Sue, what do you think? Obviously, you’re expert hand is pretty involved in the finished products but I’m really proud.
Sue Barnes: I think you’ve done so well. It looks fantastic, it smells fantastic. I think any bride will be so pleased to have that even just on the top table or one in every three table centers around the room. It’s absolutely beautiful.
George: It makes a statement in the room and the smell; that whole spring essence that we are going for seems to have come to life.
Sue Barnes: Yeah. I think if you’ve got a room with very tall ceilings this is the simple design that you need to see at least once through out the room. It takes the eye upwards. I think that being seasonal with all the catkins and the pussy willows that you’ve chosen or just ordered, it just looks incredible.
George: So, the final moment, the most important moment of the day; what’s out of ten?
Sue Barnes: 11, I really truly think it’s wonderful and I think you’ve done so well.
George: That’s very kind of you. And very so nice when I ask them what do I get out of ten. But I think that deserves a tenth, eleventh. It’s quite marvelous.
Sue Barnes: Stunning.
George: Thank you.
