Leila: Your wedding lasts only a day, but the memories can live on forever with the right photographer.
Manny Favas: You try not to pose people so as far as experience is concerned; it is weddings, which I have been doing for the last 15 years.
Leila: You are welcome to watchmojo.com. I am your host Leila. I am in studio with Manny Favas.
Many Favas: In essence, what I am doing is building a wedding story for the couple. People are showing you their personalities and what I try to do is basically exploit those personalities. And I mean that in a good way of course.
Every good photographer should be able to do that.
Leila: What kind of preparation goes into this?
Many Favas: Before the day starts, we get together and we go over the entire day. I get to see whether a couple is timid or more outgoing and of course, I adapt my style. Nothing ever goes at schedule in weddings. Well sometimes they do, but you have no time to really sit there and plan. Once it happens, you have to be able to react very quickly. Regardless of another photographer’s experience, if he has not gone through the wedding day that is very difficult to anticipate. In a wedding, you have to be able to anticipate.
Leila: Tell us why you chose to go digital?
Manny Favas: It is creative freedom. The industry is changing and at this point, digital is as good as film and in some cases, has surpassed film. The only disadvantage I would say to that is it gives us a lot more work.
Leila: I guess every couple wants to know if you have any tips for how they can take good pictures.
Manny Favas: There really is no secret and I think in order for a couple to be comfortable, that definitely lies on the hands of the photographer.
Leila: Do you prefer working outside or in studios, or depending on what the couple likes?
Manny Favas: It definitely has to be outside, although I have done a lot of studio work. Studio is good. Sometimes my style, the way I shoot weddings is reflected on an exterior environment.
Leila: If a wedding does not necessarily inspire you, how can you still create a meaningful situation out of it?
Manny Favas: Every wedding does inspires me. It is my job as a photographer to motivate the couple and I always want their feedback because what I give to them as a final product will last for a lifetime.
