Hey everybody! It's Will Kriski here. This is the week 4 of my Lesson a Week series. We are going to be talking about pedal point used in kind of a neoclassical sense of the word. As part of my Song a Week series, I just released the song called 'Metal Mayhem' and I used some of that in the middle, basically over A chord.
Basically, what pedal point is, it has different meanings in some cases in different contexts, but basically it's a repeating note idea over maybe a series of chord changes. In this case, I have got the A note, I keep it going back to it. So even though I keep the A note, I might ascend a scale in that and go back to that note. I may descend but I always go back to the main pedal note.
I'll show a couple of examples, first, from my song 'Metal Mayhem', and feel free to download that song; it's free. I'll show another example, typically used in neoclassical music by Yngwie Malmsteen, Vinnie Moore and people like that. So check it out, hope you like it. Practice it slow and speed up; make sure it's clean. See you guys.
