Weekend Extra: Encoding Videos for the Web

Now, a lot of people have been asking “Hey Indi Mogul, why do you videos looks so good on YouTube?”

Well, this is a pretty simple explanation to that. That has to do with YouTube bowing in the presence of greatness.

Or else, it is just have it pretty standard setting, preset that we use.

Now, the program we most recommend is Final Cut. You can get Final Cut Express, not HD Final Cut Express, very pretty cheap, usually somewhere around a $100.00.

An upgrading to HD is not that much more, and it is just a really great program and if you using Windows, you should probably get Mac anyway if you want to make video.

Now before we boxed up the video and ship it out to be sent, there’s a few thing you want to do to make sure that it looks good before it goes out.

Go to effects, and then video filters and then video, looks like De-Interlace.

Now, because computer screens and TV screen have a different set up for how they display images, De-Interlacing your video is going to make it proper for watching on a computer screen.

A lot of times when you capture your footage to your computer, it is going to be darker than how you shot it. So, you want to up the brightness and the contrast a little bit and maybe use your RGB and your gamma correction to really get a clear and visible image.

Now the main thing we are trying to do here is get your video looking good but still under a 100 MB.

So, you are going to go to File Export using QuickTime conversion and select this as your format MPEG4.

Use all the same setting we have here. Unless you shot in wide screen, then you want to go 640 x 360.

And where is this Data Rate?

Make that as high you can. While the file is still remains under a 100MB or a 100,000KB.

Now, go into Audio and under Data Rate, pick anything that is above 128.

If you are using I-Movie, then go to File Export and click QuickTime and then select Expert Settings.

Click Share, and then do the exact same settings we did for Final Cut Pro.

If you are using Windows, I recommend switching to Mac or, exporting your file to a full-quality AVI.

Usually any program that you can edit with, you will be able to export a full-quality file with.

Now, I am not going to go into detail about the settings for your WMV files, because once again, what you are just trying to do is get the top quality for every setting.

The highest they can be, while the file is still remains a 100MB.
