Welsh Cakes Recipe
Welcome to Le Gourmet TV. Today, we’re going to make a cookie recipe that‘s due to my heart. A very good friend of mine, his grandmother would send this to him at University and I fell in love with him and his grandmother was kind enough to write the recipe out for me, we’re going to make Welsh cakes.
So we start with some out room temperature butter and add the flour. We just rub it together, we just blend it together with our hands until they form small little granules so there we go so it has a light crumbly texture to it and a little bit messy so I’m just going to wipe my hands clean, give me a moment.
So we continue the recipe by adding the rest of our dry ingredients, so basically some sugar put baking powder, put all spice and some currants. So I left a little well in there our wet ingredients are an egg and a bit of milk is needed. So you need a little judgment on that, you’ll mix it into moist dough. Some I’m going to add just a couple of drops, spill a couple of drops. So all that’s pretty good I’m just going to lust a little bit of my hands here get a nice into a nice round ball.
So this cooks in the frying pan so I’m going to roll it out and cut it into cookie shapes. I’ve rolled them and cut them and I’m going to put my frying pan on medium, we’re going to add a bit of butter. We’re going to put the Welsh cakes in, you’ll cook them until they start to look a little bit dry on the upper side this should be a little bit underneath, we’ll flip them and then we’ll set them to the cooking rock.
These are ready we put them on a cooling rack and we sprinkle them with just a little bit of fruit sugar. You can go to town and sprinkle both sides if you like I’m going to stick with one. I’m going to continue cooking the rest of my Welsh cakes. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
