What are the building blocks of good nutrition?
Sue Brennan: When we look at what’s our building block, we’re going to start with
carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Those are what we call macronutrients, and you
have to have good sources of them. Now so many people—“I’m going to stay
away from all fat—not going to have any fat.” Well, all your cell membranes need
the right kinds of fats. Your brain doesn’t work right without the right kinds of
fats. Protein is very important for building muscle. The carbohydrates are a really
good source of energy, but some studies are now showing that they’re also—the
right kinds of sugar’s important in our immune system. We have lots a pressure
and if we don’t eat right and get the right kind of water and the right amount of
time, we can get dehydrated. There are a lot of things that we call diseases that
really can be restored—blood pressure problems, migraine headaches, there’s a
number of them—get a right water balance going, you know, you can resolve
them without medication often.
