I am Steve Durano. Welcome to this episode of Body Performance. This video is for the two guys who asked these two questions. The first question was “Hey. Steve. I had a procedure done and I am not going to be able to work out for four or five weeks. What can I do to preserve my muscle?” Well, unfortunately if you are not being working out you cannot do anything and specifically he want to know what he could eat to help preserve his muscle mass. Should you eat more protein? And unfortunately, the answer is no because what causes your muscles to grow and get a bigger and stronger or is called muscle hypertrophy is exercise. It is the stress of exercise that causes your muscles to become bigger and stronger. Take a way that stress and muscles become smaller, the atrophy.
So, unfortunately if you are going to be laid up in a hospital, you cannot exercise, nothing you eat will cause muscle growth. So, the whole trick would be to recover get in the hospital and get back to the gym as quickly and is safely as possible.
There are questions who came from a young man, and he said like some other people “Steve, what should I eat to gain more muscle and loss fat?” Well, the typical answer is remember, it is not what you eat that causes weight loss. It is what you do not eat. It is what you do not stick in your mouth that causes weight loss and again there is no food that you can eat that causes muscle growth. If that were true, we can just eat stake and become bigger and stronger because stake is in itself muscle but that is not the case what you have to do is stress and strain and work your muscles through exercise and activity and that causes muscle hypertrophy or muscle growth. It has nothing to do with what you eat. Your body will utilize the nutrients that you take in from eating to help prepare your muscles, but you must have that stress and strain of exercising and weight lifting to cause your muscles to grow. Thanks for watching. I love you. Bye.
