Debbie: My name is Debbie from Sylvania, Ohio, and I am wondering what causes age spots and if they are preventable? Dr. Jonathan Evans: Well, thank you, Debbie. There are age spots really are lots of different things, and they have different causes and for the most part, they are normal. They are not really preventable per se insofar as the way you are made. That's different from things that are caused by sun exposure, which can cause changes in the skin that accumulate over a lifetime.
