What Causes Dry Eyes Dr. Travis: You know one other thing people don’t realize is that one in five people that’s 20 percent of us suffer from dry eyes. You can have that redness, burning even blurred vision and Doctor still a lot who don’t understand why this happens. So explain it to us. Male: Sure Travis. Tears are made of oil and water. When there is not enough oil on the surface the water evaporates 10 to 20 times faster leaving the surface of the eye chopped and dry. That dryness can translate into inflammation which can even cause infection overtime and on rare occasion people have even lost their eyes due to the consequences of dry eyes.
