Raena Morgan: What is phlebitis? What causes it?
Frank Murray: Yes, well I'm sure you've seen people with phlebitis. Usually it affects one leg and its blood clots building up, and so blood is not circulating properly. Why it involves one leg over the other I don't know, but quite often it does involve one leg. Phlebitis is just blood clots that build up in the veins and cause these blotches that are very painful and the leg is swollen and so you need the sweet orange to interrupt that problem and have more blood flowing through that particular area.
Raena Morgan: Can it affect your circulatory health?
Frank Murray: Well it can, yes. As you can imagine this is a swollen leg, it's very painful and it impacts on the whole system, obviously.
Raena Morgan: But phlebitis is usually a case of the legs?
Frank Murray: Yes. It can be in other parts but basically it's in the leg, yes.
Raena Morgan: You talk about in your book that sweet orange affects circulatory health that would be everything, including cardiovascular health?
Frank Murray: Oh absolutely, yes. As we know, bioflavonoids dilate the blood vessels, that is, expands them so that more blood can get through. As you know, the arteries are sending blood to the rest of the body from the heart and the veins and the capillaries are returning it, so you need a flow. You need that flow of blood through the body and then back to the heart. It's a round trip affair that we need. And so, the bioflavonoids like diosmin and hesperidin in the sweet orange help to accentuate that and improve blood flow throughout the body.
Raena Morgan: Because when I think of clots I don't think phlebitis, we always think of the heart.
Frank Murray: Oh absolutely, but these are a buildup of clots in the leg.
Raena Morgan: And once you take sweet orange that can alleviate that?
Frank Murray: Absolutely, yes.
Raena Morgan: And, the studies in your book say that, say as much.
Frank Murray: Absolutely, yes. The sweet orange has been researched heavily, particularly in Europe. And, as you know in my book I explain so many studies where sweet orange has improved circulation in all of these diseases we've been discussing the phlebitis, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. The studies are enormous and really quite exciting.
Raena Morgan: Thank you very much.
Frank Murray: Thank you
