What Does ACL Stand For?

William: Hi! I'm William from Chicago, Illinois, and I was just wondering what is the ACL stand for, and what is its main function? Andrew Gregory: William, the ACL is the Anterior Cruciate Ligament and if you cross your fingers like that, these ligaments the Anterior Cruciate and the Posterior Cruciate are in the inside of your knee and they function to limit the knee from translating and so the knee has two bones, the Femur and the Tibia that sit on top of each other, and you don't want those to move very far back and forth because that would cause damage to the knee and so the ligament serves to hold those two bones there. So it prevents translation as well as rotation or twisting.
