So we have got the that community website at geeks.pirollo.com and we are working on different widgets through which you can interact with the experiences or whatever is being posted on the website, trust me you will be excited to see what we are working on the back end and I am certainly having a lot of fun it is only been a couple of days and we already have over 2,000 geeks who have signed up for this particular community and so tonight when we hit 2,000 geeks we will be giving this AMB Phenom processor.
Well, when you join the community, you are there for a reason because you are interested in what the community has to say or you want to be a part of the community. You share a certain affinity with the community. So I set up geeks.pirollo.com. It is a place where geeks could gather. It is that simple no matter what kind of geek you are. And I have seen geeks who are geeky but they are not geeky about anything related to technology but they are just geeky. They just get it -- my dad is not a computer geek but he is a motorcycle geek. He is a geek because he is so passionate about the things that he does. So when it comes to building a profile on a community website, it is important that you do it “right way.” And I got a few guidelines that certainly are applicable to our community at geeks.pirillo.com but you could also apply these guidelines or this code of conduct to any web community or internet community that you belong to.
1. Be honest, be descriptive, be straight forward and be humorous. People react to humor. I mean ha! Ha! humor not like personal attack humor. It is like breaking down this invisible walls that exist. When I first look at a profile the more customized it is to that person and the more I can learn about that person the more I am going to say, oh! Well did not realize that you like Moxy service too, unless of course they share that fact and if you have no idea who Moxy service is do not worry we can still be friends. I am just saying that it would be something that was descriptive about the things that they happen to like.
2. PUGS remember! Punctuation, usage, grammar, spelling, remember your pugs. Use your shift key to capitalize the first word of every sentence and proper nouns and remember that the sentence usually ends with a period. Just FYI and by the way an ellipses, is three periods. A period you know a dot, three, not four, not two, not five, three, just an ellipses, three dots. There is something I just cannot stand and that is when people use five dots or four dots or a series of 16 dots when they mean three. My English teacher, I trained, that is my degree. Just have to say it, watch you PUGS.
3. Customize your theme to your liking if you have that opportunity. In our geeks.pirillo.com you do. As a matter of fact if I go my profile I just click the little profile link on the top. I hope you guys knew this already. Here, let me, I have got a squeaky laptop over there, let me turn this around, it says yes, it is really me. I can hover over that particular element and then I can click it and then change whatever I want in there so I can edit it. I am not going to edit it though. Or let us say I do not want the profile to be listed at the top and I am sorry it is so bright but what I can do is I can click and drag it around and you cannot really see that right now but I can move certain elements around if you hover your cursor over a title bar, for an element in your profile, you can drag the elements around which is really kind of cool.
Then if you scroll down right now, right underneath your avatar, you will see change my photo or theme, I know you are not able to see that because I got a white, there we go that is a little better. Change your theme. If you click there you can just change you theme to just about anything and I mean anything in the sense that we have got some predefined templates and hopefully more will be available or if you know CSS or you know someone who knows CSS, Cascading Scale Sheets web design then you can really tweak and you can really just mash things around and mak
