What’s an adequate dose of omega 3s?
Sue Brennan: Well, that can vary, but a general range based on the American Heart Association
is 2 to 4 grams a day when you’re looking at prevention for cardiovascular
conditions. For the rheumatoid arthritis, kind of, again, the same range, 2 to 4. I
think the studies were done where they were doing about 3 grams a day. When
people are looking at the products, often you’ll see it as fish oil, and then you
have to look a little closer. Common amount of EPA is going to be like 180
milligrams and a common amount of 120 on the DHA. I want to caution people
that if a person does start to take greater than 3 grams a day, total, there could be
and increase risk of bleeding. So that’d be something to watch out for.
