Gregg: We got two filters here. maybe you could explain the difference in this filter and in this one.
Joe: These are two very common types of filters in the marketplace. This would be the pressure filter, popularized handful years ago by the manufactures. Today they are coming out with back washing mechanisms in it so that you can actually control the val up here and pull up on the handle and now did you take and backwash theme that is the kind of filter today. You never even have to open up, you will never have to get your hands dirty, and we call it our suit and tie filters.
Gregg: Okay, so basically with this one, the water goes in under pressure, comes out under pressure, you do not have to worry about it flowing with gravity coming out.
Joe: Right, we can put this anywhere in the system between the pump and the outlet so we can actually execute the filter to continue the top of the of the waterfall and so that.
Gregg: And I imagine that you can have it doggy end if you would like.
Joe: Yes, these are very low profile design. You can dig them in to the dirt. Up to these that we are here, and they are easy to conceal, that is the very proper because there is replacement.
Gregg: And you just pull this up where I am probably, more strong as you.
Joe: Because it is, dry. But, when it is installed and in the dirt and full of water and nice and wet, this will just go up and down and you are agitating the medium side. Just like bringing on the sponge in the kitchen sink.
Gregg: Makes sense.
Joe: And the dirt goes all down the drain.
Gregg: Excellent and I understand that the stuff that comes out of here is great for your garden.
Joe: It is wonderful for your garden. it does not smell so great but this one—
So it is nice not to touch it.
Gregg: Now, this is the biological gravity fit?
Joe: Yes. These box filters comes in various sizes. This particular one here is quite a large one. it will handle about 10 to 12,000 gallon pond with fish. Again, one of the things about them is that they are easy in maintenance and easy to clean. What happens in pond filters today—because a lot of ponds—especially in heavily treated environments or ponds with a lot of fishing plants in them, you get a lot of decayed material at the bottom of the pond. So using a good adequate filtration pump that can pass all it into the box, the box is going to trap all the materials here. And then now that this box is easy to backwash and clean, this again, you do not have to get your hands dirty and now you can sit back and enjoy yourself while on the pond instead of having to clean them out every weekend.
Gregg: Yes, no kidding, and I guess that is another important fact. People are always looking at filters and say, “Well, I do not need one that big, I will get a little smaller one”, really. it is better idea to get bigger as better, right?
Joe: Yes, there is no problem over sizing your filter, what would that ultimately means for you is longer intervals between actual cleaning. It is very tough to get a clear water pond without some kind of filtration in there. What they do offer you is a wide buffer between different balances in the pond.
Gregg: Okay, perfect, little plants, little filtration to your pond.
Joe: Clear water guarantee that is what we like.
