Natalie: Before we get started I'm going to ask you question now if you get this question wrong I am going to personally hurt you down. What country in the world has the worst diet? Pause the video let me know and replay the video.
And the reason why I asked you that question is because the video I am going to do today it talks about different diets from all over the world and I have this fascinating picture's that show the actual foods from these different countries. so I got these pictures originally from Thai magazine but they come from a book written by Peter Menzel and Faith Alu visio I am going to put a link over here in the video description to that articles you can see the pictures are close and I am also going to pair a link over there to the Amazon.com were you can buy the book, I highly recommended it is such cook book, so cook book it has a recipes it's a picture book it has lots of different pictures and then it has a lot of good information too, and this book has won a lot of awards its won the 2006 James Pear cook book of the year world the splendid table book of the year world the 2005 Hairy Chapin Media award and it was finalized for the 2006 IACP cook book award, so it's a fascinating book check in the description for their links.
Germany: Now this German family they spend about $500 for one week of food and look at the bottom of the picture I want you to notice all the alcohol that they have on the table there, which is probably consider more amount of their budget but they have wine, they have beer, so that's one thing to notice and then also they have a pretty good amount of fruits and vegetables lower fruits than the amount of vegetables which is pretty good. And then also on that upper table closes to them they have a pretty large amount of meats dairy products cheeses you know the saturated fat foods, so that's really interesting. They don't have any coke on their table and then something else to realized to is they were literally close because they don't have a lot of process foods on their table, they have may be 10 to 15% of their entire weeks worth of food is processed pretty much everything else is home foods.
Japan: Now here is the Japanese family they spend about $317.25 cents per weeks for their food, now look at this picture at the bottom because they have to their left side they have a little bit of fruits and then at the top of the table they have some vegetables so its you know its just a little bit here and there, not as much so some of the other families we are going to look out, really notice how many fish that they have on their table, that's obviously their main source of protein Japanese do you have one of the longest live Japanese in the world and then at the very bottom of the picture they have lots of packaged items and you know when its in island so they do have import lot of their foods, so lot of things are going to be packaged but really I almost non of these packaged items are sugar type foods that would be common in United States, there are more like seasonings you know pastas, rice dishes things like that, they do have a little bit of dessert in the corner but its is very moderate and then they only have one butter wood coke so you know as for as their sugar consumption its very low and they have a big emphasis on fish and sea food which is fantastic.
Italy: Italy this family is spend about $260 on their one week of food and in the picture look how many home foods they have this is awesome, a lots of fruits and vegetables lots of whole grains, and you can actually look at the bread down there, non of its in packages so its obviously made fresh and I know that its very common in Italian culture to stop by the market every time on your way home. And so there is market really everywhere with fresh foods and breads and vegetables and things like that. So this is more common in Italy to have these, this many home foods available and then also they do have cokes in the back of the picture about 6 bottles of coke and I do notice that they have some frosted flakes so you know a little bit of Americanization and to the family as for as high sugar process foods but for the most part their food and vegetable consumption is awesome, it is so large and I don't see hardly any meats or animal products so they are intake of saturated fats is also going to be low.
Mexico: Look at the Mexican family here, are the first thing to really point out is that they all are over weight and then after I just said that notice how many cokes remind of begins the wall on the back of the picture. So this is one of the, this is the fist family that it worked out that seems to have a high sugar diet just from the cokes, they do seem to have a good majority of whole foods in their diet fruits and vegetables so how ever a lot of their fruits that they have are high sugar containing so they have bananas they have some other tropical fruits tomatoes, avocados of course which is common in the Mexican diet they have breads some candy's on the tables some sugar cereal for the kids for all the people that we looked out they seem to be the least you know health conscious as for as our diet goes and they are only spending a $189 on the whole weeks worth of food which is pretty good for a family of five, but at the same time think about how much lower that could be if they would have cut out all the cokes that are lined up in the back as well some of the other fruits we just mentioned.
Poland: Now this Poland family has spent about a $151 US on their weeks worth of food and they have about half process foods half whole foods, if you notice In the front part of the picture they have some candy bars lined up some Eminem's they have some packaged and process foods that are in their little pantry area the back table and its kind of far away in the picture so its hard to really make out but they have a lot of vegetables on their picture lots of carrots and cauliflower, broccoli sukani I mean that table is loaded with whole foods, whole grains, whole fruits, whole vegetables, and they do have one bottle of coke in the picture but one bottle for six people you know that's in moderation compare to some of the other families that have more than one bowl per person, you know per week. So overall you know it looks pretty balanced except for the candy that's lined up in the front of the picture and some of the package foods that they have in their diet.
Egypt: This family is diet consists almost all home foods they have hardly anything packaged I don't see anything processed they only spent $68.53 for a family of 12 that is truly amazing in itself. But if you are looking of the picture they have some water 2-3 bottles of coke but for a family of 12 that's you know that's not a access at all, but their fruits and vegetables consumption is really amazing that's wonder full and the back of the table right in front of the family is some red meats and some other animal products but to know that they are cooking for 12 people in that family the majority of their food is really just the fruits and vegetables so that's awesome.
Ecuador: This family have nine has only spend $31.55 for their weeks worth of food, and notice in their picture non of them are over weight, they are everything in their diet is 100% whole foods nothing is processed or packaged they may or may not have acces to that but according to what they are eating now it looks like the majority of their diet is vegetarian I don't see any meat in their picture and probably getting the majority of their protein from beans and rice but look at all the whole foods I mean that's just really amazing and they only spend $ 31 US for a family of 9 that's really amazing too.
Bhutan: This Bhutanese families spend only $5.3 cents for a family of 12, that entire diet right there is all whole foods, nothing is processed they don't hardly have any carbohydrates besides that big bag of rice and you know its just they have a little bit of dairy but everything is whole foods, that's really amazing. Another of them are over weight obviously and they do have a little bit of citrus but its really cool, how their, the majority of their diet fully is fruits and vegetables.
Chad: This family in Chad only spend $1.23 cents for 6 people, now they, its obvious that they are non enriched, they are under weight you know this food is not enough to accommodate a family of 6 but they obviously only have you know limited access to certain foods there majority of protein has coming from beans and rice they have a little bit of vegetables but in this instance it's you know its obviously they don't have enough quantity of food to feed their whole family.
The United States: Look at this picture this just makes me so sad, $341.98 cents for a family of four, and look at everything that's processed they have got pizza that was you know from a delivery they have packaged chips and cokes not only one or 2 bottles of coke they have cases and cases of cokes, everything is either from a restaurant its packaged I see two tomatoes one little patch of great grapes and that's I don't see anything else that's whole foods compare to all the other pictures that we worked out that's really sad. They do have a little bit of dairy a lot of their vegetables are already canned which you know are considered process foods, so its just really eye opening to see that a comparison to other countries.
Now here is a bonus question, out of all the pictures we would like to add all the diets from the different countries which one do you think is the best?
