What Qualities Do Leaders Posses?

The world without a leader would cease to exist. Since time of memorial, leaders have gathered humanity in their struggle for survival. A leader shows us a ray of light and darkness, makes our future brighter, and life much simpler. He brings hope and happiness to our lives. People often wonder what the characteristics of leadership are. Why is one person a leader and another person a follower. It has been observed that the leader possesses certain qualities which are remarkably different from the common masses. While the common men gets entangled in their routine lives, leaders often overcome this difficulties into site to bring about radical changes in the environment in which they are living.

There are two kinds of people in this world. There are those who are proactive and those who are reactive. Reactive people give vents to their anger whereas proactive people think about the future and try to find lasting solutions to their problems. When Mahatma Gandhi was thrown off the train, he did not react at that moment. Instead, he devised a strategy which eventually overthrew the British out of India forever which was indeed a lasting solution.

Being a proactive is considered one of the most important characteristics of leadership. Having the ability of making top decisions is considered an important characteristic of leadership. Acting tough also means having the ability to withstand the ire of other people. Sometimes, some decisions are unpopular but one needs to make them for the overall benefit of the people, which is essential for a better future.

A leadership demonstrates tremendous courage during this period of change and adaptation. A leader is always focused on his goal. He exhibits complete dedication on his work and he demonstrates tremendous self-confidence. A leader is not fickle minded. He is determined and his communication with his people is very effective. He never gets carried away by emotions. His emotional quotient is exemplary and he never makes decisions based on his whims and fancies. He is the personal of enthusiasm. He creates positive energy around his surroundings energizing each and every person around him. In fact, people take great pleasure in working with people like him.

Ability to motivate others is another vital characteristic of leadership. Anyone devoid of these characteristics should not even dream of becoming a leader. People stick to a leader because they find them to be motivational. Once people get motivated, they stick to their leader and work tirelessly for the leader in helping him to achieve his objective. If people are not motivated, then why will they come to the leader? It is believed that leaders are born with certain characteristics of leadership. Someone may be a natural orator, someone else maybe a natural singer, and another person may be a born writer. This may be true to a certain extent but it is also true that there is nothing in this world which cannot be achieved by hard work. Leadership can be learned.
