Ethan Bloch: So someone comes up to you know like “Hey, you know about Cyclone Nargis?” This is what you should say.
Of course I know about Cyclone Nargis, are you serious? Are you talking about the very severe cyclonic storm Nargis, which is Asia’s worst cyclone since 1991 and so far is the 12th deadliest cyclone ever!
Cyclone Nargis made land fall over the South Western part of Myanmar, also known as Burma on May 2nd, with winds of up to a 105 mph. It is now estimated that there will be over a 100,000 casualties to the Nargis.
One of the reason is so devastating, as a Cyclone Nargis hit during the night of people who are sleeping and where unprepared to fight the storm.
The most devastated region is the delta region in South Western, Myanmar where 1,930 square miles are now covered and flooded in water. That is about the size of urban Philadelphia.
The biggest problem now after the storm is convincing the Shunta Government, the military government in Myanmar that they need International relief. Feeder communist and they only like a dealing with the west, and the US and France in Britain are trying to convince them right now that they need International relief and that the massive outbreaks of disease due the lack of clean water.
Thankfully, Indonesia, India, China and Thailand have already been supplying some relief supplies.
That is what I know about Cyclone Nargis.
