One question I get asked a lot is, how do I get HDTV at home? What do I need? Well, it's actually not that complicated. First of all, you need an HDTV set, you need a set that is HD capable which means that it's probably got 16x9 wide-screen TV set that it has HD capabilities that means it's 720p, 1080i or 1080p. These are all numbers I have talked about elsewhere, but is has the HD resolutions. But then very important that you need a source of HD programming. Now that can come from a lot of different places. It can come from your satellite box, it can come from your cable box. I am holding right now a HDTV DVR, that's a cable satellite box, probably very similar one you may have at home.
Now simply having the box and having the TV is not enough. You also need to use the right connectors. So on the back of the TV box or the cable box, you will see there are bunches of connectors on here. Traditionally, we have been using the red, white, and yellow to connect a cable box or even they rate RF cable, the one little knob in the center of it to connect the cable box to your TV. That will not give you HDTV. The only way you get HD is by using the component videos; the red, blue, green, which plug into the red, blue, green plugs on the back, or even better, the HDMI cable which is something that plugs in here. Instead of having all those other cable, one cable goes in here and it will work perfectly.
Now, of course, there is another way of doing it too. There are some new TV sets out in the market that has something called True Two-Way, where this cable box is actually built into the television set. So you don't have to have a separate cable box; you can just use it built into your TV set. Now it's not available in every market yet but that's where it's going. So you will able to actually get the full cable capability using True Two-Way and full HD. So that's another way of getting it.
So in summary, you want to have an HDTV set, you need an HDTV signal source which could be your satellite, could be your cable or over-the-air digital broadcast with an HD tuner inside your TV set and of course, coming forward, you will have the new True Way TVs which won't have to worry cables at all because it all will be incorporated.
But even if you have all those pieces, make sure you use the right cables. If you don't use the right cables, you are not going to get HDTV. Hope this was helpful. If you want more information, please go to livinginhd.com and look at the Answerman.
