We go out to buy a TV, especially an LCD. You'll a reference to something called 60Hz and 120Hz. Why do you care? Well, it's very simple. TVs have a normal refresh rate of 60Hz, it's 60 times per second, and that's normally fine for most content. But if you have a fast action content, like for example, you are dealing with sports or games or anything that involves a lot of motion on the screen, sometimes a TV just can't keep up with the changing images very, very fast.
So, the engineers have come up with this notion of actually doubling the refresh rate, therefore 120 Hz. So, the pictures are actually displayed on the screen twice as fast as they are on a standard 60Hz and that has a tendency to reduce the blur that's happening with the fast action motion.
Now, it's not so much of case with plasma TVs, because plasma TVs inherently have a much faster refresh rate. So, it's really an LCD issue. But 120 Hz, if you like to watch a lot of sports and the fast action or you are a gamer, you really want the higher number. If you want just regular TV and you don't care about sports as much, then the 60Hz is just fine for you.
