What does a Personal Stylist Do - Part 1/2

Katia: Hi Monica, welcome and thank you for taking the time to discuss fashion with our watch mojo audience today. Monica: Oh I’m very happy to be here Katia. Katia: Thank you very much. So my first question for you, for people who might not be familiar with your line of work basically, could you describe, tell us in a few words what is in an image expert? Monica: Well, basically an image expert or to like to call my self style coach is someone that assist people in terms of helping them put together a wardrobe that’s going to reflect the personality, life style, and career goals. So whatever they decide or choose to wear needs to be consistent with their career, their job, their personality and lifestyle basically. I’m there to kind of challenge all the choices they are making and kind of help them find tuning to their personal brand. Katia: We ask the help of sales people in terms of advice on how to put outfits together, now how does the knowledge of a style coach differ from these other sources of information. Monica: Guess what, I blame the stores, I blame them more often and I need to do something to do some interventions sometimes Katia, because what happens, the sales people, they want to sell the merchandise. They are not really paying attention to who you are and I see a sales person telling those people “Oh! This looks amazing on you!” and it doesn’t. I ask tons of questions to make people think about what they have a home before they choose to buy anything because whatever they choose to buy in the store, they need to make sure that they’re able to mix and match at home. I don’t want this to be like a piece of an orphan I would say. That’s going to sit in your closet and you’re going to waste money and time because it’s worth impulse purchase or because it was on sale. Before you go grocery shopping, you open the fridge, you see everything you have, and then make a list of what you’re missing, that’s what I do. I make people create a list of all the items their missing, when they go to their closet, they make a list of the things that their missing to compliment their closet so when they go shopping, they have a list and their going to buy only the things they need to buy, so their not going to be shopaholics. Katia: Yes. Monica: You know what I mean.
