I am Steve Turano. Welcome to set up of Bode Performance. It is a new year so let us review a little bit about Aerobics or cardiovascular activity.
Aerobics is simply using fat as an energy source in the presence of oxygen. So when your body takes in enough oxygen, its primary field source is fat. So, while I am sitting here talking to you, I am aerobic. Sure, I am burning fat. I am just not burning a lot of fat.
Now, you see people on the gym and they are doing cardio, and they are doing aerobics and they are constantly checking their heart rate. This is a big problem and I will tell you why. See most people are so worried about their heart rate and giving it out of the fat burning zone because their heart is being too fast. Well, if they were to get out of the fat burning zone. I mean, if they were really exercising, they would be so out of breath. They could only handle it for 5, 10, or 15 seconds depending on their fitness levels and then that they will do is slow that down into normal rate. Their heart rate will drop again and they will be back in the fat burning zone. But what happens is, when you enter that area or that edge of not being able to breathe or catch your breath, it greatly improves your cardiovascular capabilities.
You have to get out of breaths once in a while when you are doing aerobics. It improves your cardiovascular and your aerobic performance. Getting out of breath catches your whole cardiovascular system to work and stretch. This does a couple of things. Number one, it greatly improves your cardiovascular ability. Number two, it raises your heart rate and it raises your fitness level. Therefore, you are able to exercise and in much higher level where your greater performance and therefore burn more calories without getting out of breath.
If you are fat burning and heart rate is 140, now, after a couple of weeks of intense training, it might go to 150 or 155. Therefore, you are exercising at a higher level burning more calories, but not getting out getting out of breath. And the last thing it does is it changes your metabolism so when you are sitting around doing nothing, a greater percentage of you fat calories are being burned. You are not burning more calories during the day; you are just burning a greater percentage of fat calories.
So stop worrying about your heart rate. Just get out there and just do cardio with intensity. Love your body.
