Rachel: Hi! I am Rachel. I have type-II diabetes and I was diagnosed in 2006. My doctor says I have brittle diabetes. Is this why it's so hard to control?
Linda Delahanty: Hi! Rachel. Some people don't use the term 'brittle diabetes' anymore. What they mean by that term is that it's hard to control blood sugars that maybe are going up and down in the extreme, and hard to regulate.
Often times, what we find is that really managing your eating habits and your activity in a consistent manner really helps the blood sugars to stabilize quite a bit and all of a sudden, the blood sugars don't seem so brittle and erratic. It is true that some people do have more trouble controlling their blood sugars than others, and it's important to work with your healthcare provider to work that through.
