Veronica: Children’s Art Day’s are dating courage and inspired children to engage in art at museums, galleries and at school. Hi, I’m Veronica with watchmojo.com, and today we’re gonna find out the importance of art to a child’s life. So, what’s the purpose of National Children’s Art Day?
Marilyn: The idea was to get more and more children and their families using the spaces in museums settings to come and do art, and to also look at it, and learn how to appreciate it and learn to become comfortable in a museum setting.
Veronica: Besides visiting a museum, what are other ways to bring art into a child’s life?
Marilyn: I mean art is such a wonderful thing, and unfortunately in the schools, it seems to be something that’s less and less of present. It’s really too bad because sometimes if the kid’s aren’t getting it with their families and they’re not getting it in their schools, then they’re not getting it. I believe that the role of the families to get kids initiated with art is probably more and more important.
Veronica: And why do you think it’s so important to bring art in a child’s life?
Marilyn: Kids who are maybe less inclined to be vocal about the way they express things, who are more comfortable working with images rather than words, and it’s such an empowering thing I think for kids to paint, to draw, to express themselves with images, you know. Sometimes words is hard to find the right vocabulary to say what you’re feeling and I think with art it’s just another way of communicating.
Veronica: So for everyone who doesn’t know about National Art Day, how do you suggest that they celebrate it this year?
Marilyn: Taking out some paint and some paper. It doesn’t have to be expensive. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Taking out crayons and just having fun.
Veronica: Thank you very much.
Marilyn: You’re very welcome.
