What is Cool Jazz

The cool era of Jazz is best defined as a countermovement to the hot stylings of the bebop era. Miles Davis best categorize the cool era of jazz with two works of jazz with two works. One in 1949 called The Birth of the Cool, this is an album, and another album in 1959 called Kind of Blue. With the onset of the 1960’s came the genre of hard bop also known as post-bob. Here is a list of the essential post bop recordings. Number one, Giant Steps, John Coltrane, 1959. Number two, Take the A Train, Duke Ellington, 1960. Number three, Live at the Plug Nickel, Miles Davis, 1965 and Nefertiti, MIles Davis, 1967.
