Male: Sometimes a little dullness down there. And the doctor said maybe it is a epididymitis.
Doctor: Epididymitis is the inflammation and the infection of the epididymis.
Male: What is that all about?
Doctor: The epididymitis is the area on the testicles that is attached to the testicle that collects the sperm and it has a head, tail, and a body. It is like a letter C that goes over the testicle and you have the head on the top, the tail on the bottom, and then the vas deferens that connects to it and it goes over directly to the seminal vesicles and goes to the ejaculatory ducts on the prostate, that is what collects the sperm.
Now what happen when you have an infection in the prostate? The infection may travel backwards into the testicle and the first thing that gets inflamed is going to be the epididymitis. It may stay like that or it may develop into orctitis.
Male: Is it an emergency?
Doctor: No.
Male: But it is a pain in the testicle that is an emergency. The pain is throbbing out.
Doctor: Right and usually the epididymitis does not stop all of the sudden, it is usually an insidious type of thing. It is different than the torsion. The torsion is a sudden onset of pain and sometimes it is associated with nausea and vomiting; excruciating pain, you cannot put your legs together and it is very difficult to keep you asleep or whatever and it is an acute emergency. The epididymitis usually is not and the epididymitis when you check the urine usually have pus but with the other one usually you do not.
