Ruth: Hi! My name is Ruth and I am from Massachusetts. The HPV vaccine has been in the news a lot lately, and I am just wondering, what is HPV and why is it only concerned for women, are men immune to HPV? Dr. Holly Thacker: HPV is Human Papillomavirus. It's a family of a lot of viruses that cause a lot of problems, including cervical cancer. HPV also can cause penile cancer, anal genital cancer and throat cancer. So I predict in the next few years we will be immunizing men as well for HPV.
