What is Menopause

The word menopause literally means the permanent psychological or natural cessation of menstrual cycles. The word is commonly used in regard to human females where menopause happens more or less in mid life signaling the end of the fertile affairs of the woman’s life. The process of the ovary shutting down is the phenomena,which involves the entire cascade of a woman’s reproductive functioning from brain to skin and this major physiological event usually has some effect on almost every aspect of the woman’s body and life. Menopause starts as the ovaries begin to fail to be able to produce an egg or ovum every month. Since the process of producing and ripening the egg is also what creates several of the key hormones involved in the monthly cycle, this in turn interrupts the regular pattern of the hormone cycles and gradually leads to the somewhat chaotic and long drawn out shutting down of the whole reproductive system. The break up in the pattern of the menstrual cycle not only causes the levels of the most reproductive hormones to drop overtime, but also causes the reproductive hormones to fall out of phase with another, which often leads to extreme and unpredictable fluctuations in the levels, which itself can cause numerous symptoms in most women such as hot flushes.

The average age of menopause is 51 years. In normal age range for the current of menopause is somewhere between the age of 45 and 55 and can sometimes be from 60 to 65. Although menopause does not bring psychological changes that may slow down response time and affect sexual activities in the variety of ways, 70% to 80% of women do not experience a reduction and sexual activity or satisfaction and for those who do there are safe effective solutions. Some women have fewer in less than 10 orgasms when they reach menopause. It may take them more time and stimulation to become aroused. For all women having intercourse or master bating regularly can help increase sexual responsiveness and pleasure. They keep the muscles, supporting the uterus, vagina and bladder, in shape and increase lubrication. Kegel exercise is contractions of the pelvic muscle near the vagina can also help strengthen the vaginal muscles. Menopause does not have to be the sexual death of a woman.
