Philina: Hi! My name is Philina. I'm from Boston, Massachusetts. I want to know, exactly what osteoporosis is? How I know if I have it? And when I should start getting checked for it? Arya Shamie: Philina, that's a great question. Osteoporosis is a condition of weaken bone which puts you at higher risk of developing hip, spine and wrist fractures. One in four women in the US will develop osteoporosis after menopause. Consequently, your doctor can order a bone density test to measure your bone mass and whether or not you have osteoporosis. If you're diagnosed with osteoporosis, there is good medical treatment available for you.
