Stephanie: Descendent to military obstacle courses, this activity's main goal is to maximize efficiency. Hi! My name is Stephanie and welcome to watchmojo.com. Today, we are going to be learning about Parkour.
Parkour is often mis-categorized as a sport, but obviously it uses the human body and physical activity but there are no set rules, there is no competition and even like not necessarily team-work. So, how would you describe what Parkour is and what does it mean to you?
Silex Kit: Parkour is like to move efficiently from a point A to point B and like you said we have to use our body. There is a philosophy behind that and you need to understand that philosophy to continue to keep doing Parkour for the rest of your life and that's the main thing that a lot of people have to understand.
Parkour makes your body stronger and if you are getting stronger, you can go through life overcoming obstacle, even life obstacle. Now, it makes you stronger mentally and physically.
Stephanie: What would you say is the philosophy or the main philosophy behind Parkour?
Silex Kit: There is always a way to overcome obstacle, even if it's hard. But, you have to find your own way, and it's the same thing in Parkour. When someone do a movement, you don't have to do the same movement. Parkour has no set rules, because you need to find a way to move your own body.
Stephanie: So one of the unofficial mottos of Parkour is être et durer which means to be and to last. How would you say that Parkour sort of incorporates that into what they do?
Silex Kit: The main thing about Parkour is that you need to be strong to do a movement. You need to condition your body, so it can last for the longest time because you only have one body in your life, and you need to take care of that.
Stephanie: So it's been claimed that Parkour is good not only for the body, but for the mind. Would you agree, and how so?
Silex Kit: You see life more positive too, and you are having fun doing training. In the gym, you know it's close, there is one machine, you need to do one thing but when you are outside, you have more freedom and you can do it anytime, you can do it everywhere.
Stephanie: You are referring to it more as training in Parkour, but what are you guys training for exactly?
Silex Kit: We train for ourself. I trained some girls that say that they can't do pull up and push up. But, after training with us, they are like oh, I can do one push up, and they are so happy. Some people say that you train to compete with yourself. I don't see it that way. I think you have to train to be in harmony with yourself. I think that should be the main reason for people training Parkour.
