Now, of course what this is all mean for the future of RFID, well it means a bright future. And that’s why a lot of huge corporations have already applied for in some case to secure some very controversial patents. Take Procter & Gamble for example, they own the patent for the RFID equipped refrigerator.
Now, how do you—into purchasing one of the items? Simply put or say, “Well, the refrigerator keeps an inventory and lets you know what needs to be ordered and it can even integrated with an internet system so place those orders for you when you run out of a certain items. They can also notify you when ceratin items have had their expiration date but why is Procter & Gamble and so we’re going to help you out in this respect simply put and they want to keep tabs on what you’re buying. This way, they can sell the information to marketers who can then bombard you with advertisement and what not. Another interesting patent pending is one by Bill South and this is a garbage picking patent. Basically, they’ll be able to scan the RFID chip in everything you’ve thrown away and so that information to marketers. So, when you run out of certain items, when you throw a certain items out, people who manufacture those items and their substitutes could get in touch with you and see if you’re interested in replacing them. But it doesn’t just stop there.
After all, like I mentioned earlier, RFID needs an entire system and infrastructure. And who is looking at that way? None other but IBM, they are already on the patent, on RFID people. We’re talking about them inserting the tag readers inside the walls and ceilings of public places including public washrooms. Now, how will this people work? They’d walk through a building and as you patch each of tag reader, it would basically inventory the contents of your wallet, purse, briefcase, and pockets. Not to mention be able to identify who you are. All of a sudden, there’s no privacy anywhere especially these people’s make their way into new housing developments.
