Tiffany Caracassis: Welcome to watchmojo.com. I'm your host Tiffany Caracassis. Today, I am pleased to talk with Kam Thye Chow founder of Lotus Palm. Today, he is going to tell us what is Thai Yoga Massage and also share his secrets behind this technique that promises vitality, energy and relaxation.
Kam Thye Chow: Thai Yoga massage is in many way addresses the body in a way that nobody else does. You know all the time even myself my body is screaming out and says “Stretch me, open me, massage me” and Thai massage does all of the above. It opens you up, it stretches you up, it has yoga postures, it also kneads your stressful muscles and most importantly it embraced the spirit of Buddhism called Meta Loving Kindness. When you are working on somebody, applying loving kindness on somebody what is better than that?
Tiffany Caracassis: What is the history behind it?
Kam Thye Chow: Well, it’s a very ancient massage like I say it is massage that the whole of Thailand practices it. And Thailand is very much influenced by India and the rules of it all actually goes back all the way to India and to the Buddha. In fact, the person who is the founder of Thai massage is actually an ayurvedic physician. An ayurvedic physician is an Indian ayurvedic doctor who founded this massage.
Tiffany Caracassis: Kam, who thought you Thai Yoga massage?
Kam Thye Chow: My teacher’s name is—and his teacher’s name is—I don’t think you can remember those names but anyway the rules of it where I came from is all the way to the Thai, the folk village and I believe many generations of transmission. And coming here to the west, I start them my own tradition called the Lotus Palm tradition which is my school. We continue to research, express our self and expand Thai Yoga massage. And as I said earlier about Thai Yoga massage being very strongly rooted in the Buddhist philosophy of loving kindness and you know in many ways when people come and learn from me, they ask me “What is the pre-requisite?” I say “The most important pre-requisite is loving kindness which you already inherit from your mother, your father, you know, from your parents because this is the most important ingredient to do in a massage.” So, in the most important sense and everybody already have it. So, you are already an expert, everybody is an expert in it.
So, what we in our school is to teach people how to do loving kindness, we give you form, we give you a skill but it is something that you can acquire so easily. In fact I think Thai massage is a life’s queue that everybody should learn and everybody should have. You know, often people ask me “What can I give you?” “Give me Thai Yoga massage.” You know what, better price then they get something like loving touch. I think everybody should learn Thai massage. And I was a school teacher so you can learn it in very, very short while. You can learn it in two days.
