Male 1: Sometimes girls get pain in the vagina and it is called vaginitis. What is vaginitis?
Male 2: Most of the time we do not deal with the girls and with this vaginitis. We deal with adult women which basically is sexually active because vaginitis is simply an inflammation of the vagina, an infection with the vagina. The girls are a little bit different than an adult. In the adult usually is due to bacterial infection mostly adult and it gives you a bad odor. Bad odor is usually a fermentation of bacteria. When you have a bad odor any place in the body is because usually you have a fermentation of bacteria. When you have that thing, we do a culture with a swab of the vagina and send it up to lab and we usually put them on any kind of antibiotic to treat the vaginitis. We are also going to check for Trichomonas, for salmonellas. They are very common. We do a smear and then we look on to the microscope under the flesh and we see that Trichomonas is there. They are very cute to look at them. We see them moving over there and they have some kind of a tail over there and they moved around. They pull around all over the place. They are very easy to make a diagnosis. The Monillas is a little bit different. You need a special type of stain which basically you put a drop of KOH and you see them. They are roundish over there. [voice overlapped]
Male 1: What is the best treatment?
Male 2: The best treatment for the Trichomonas usually is metronidazole. They respond very well by mouth. The usually the monilla we give them by diflucan. It depends on your profess. There are creams for this thing. You can use metrozole. Metrozole is going to kill anyone any time of the day and it is a cream but we usually use metronidazole by mouth and we use diflucan which is Fluconazole by mouth and it usually controls it very well. Fluconazole is a drug that you can use it on a weekly basis. Use one pill today and you use another pill in a week. It usually takes care of it. The other one, the metronidazole when you give them that you are going to make sure that the patient is not going to drink any kind of liquor because liquor and the fill is a bad combination that gives you a violent response.
Male 1: If a woman just in case needs an antibiotic because of itching down there what would you be thinking about?
Male 2: It is usually vaginitis and it is usually a candidiasis. It is a candida vaginitis. Women are getting penicillins and they are taking usually for a short term. Urinary tract infection sometimes [voice overlapped]. Most of the time it takes approximately about seven days to develop this vaginitis and if you take it more than seven days usually you get these things. You give them the diflucan which they usually find.
Male 1: Could I do anything to prevent it?
Male 2: The stuff or the yoghurt can add to the stuff can be better usually done more. If you develop it, you got the itching and the feeling is uncomfortable with the discharge and it looks like a cutnote.
Male 1: Could they develop it and get one on the strings. Does it work?
