Male Speaker: Number four unless is a very common element that women encounter, urinary tract, also known as bladder infections. You see it all the time.
Female Speaker: All the time with women, and basically, what happens is the bacteria from the skin, and this usually happens a lot with intercourse, with sex. You get the honeymoon cystitis, is what we call up, and that cystitis is just a fancy name for a bladder infection.
The bacteria from the outside the skin either from your partner or yourself will ascend from the urethra, the opening of the bladder, into the bladder and cause irritation and inflammation. This can cause burning urination, really painful intercourse, it can be seriously painful.
The only treatment for it is antibiotics. Cranberry juice can be preventative, but it doesn't treat the infection. If you don't treat it, it can ascend up into the kidneys and cause kidney infection.
Male Speaker: Right, so treat it early, so you can avoid the kidney infection which can be very serious.
Female Speaker: Right, and again in those pregnant women, this can be deadly in pregnant women, because they can get serious complications from kidney infection. So you've got to have antibiotics.
Male Speaker: But not really contagious.
Female Speaker: Not contagious, this is not contagious.
Male Speaker: There are just certain things you can do that will make it more likely that you're going to get it.
Female Speaker: That's right.
Male Speaker: Thank you doctor.
