What is a File Association

Hi, this is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome to your Butterscotch.com tutorial on what is a file association. If you’re new to computers, you may have heard this term and wondered what the heck are they talking about? A file association means that a certain type of file is associated with a program so for example, by default txt files are associated with notepad which comes with Windows so if you double click on a txt file, it automatically opens in notepad. By the same token, doc files by default are associated with Microsoft Word so if you double click on a doc file, it will open the doc file in Word. Or whatever program you have, that type of file associated with so a file association is an association between a file extension like txt, doc, jpeg, and so on with a particular program and when you double click on that particular file--
