What is a Pinched Nerve

Raleigh: My name is Raleigh. I live in Portland. I was wondering, what are the symptoms and treatments for pinched nerve in the neck? Andrew Same: Thank you for your question Raleigh. Pinched nerve in the back is usually also referred to as sciatica or lumbago. What it basically means, is that it initially starts as back pain and then the pain can radiate down into one of your lower extremities or both of your lower extremities, depending on where the nerve is being pinched. The symptoms are pain, burning, numbness or weakness in the leg. It can be associated with back pain. The treatments are generally aimed at relieving the pressure either with physical therapy, activity modification, or the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and muscle relaxants. In extreme cases, if weakness is present, that's when surgical intervention may become wanted.
