Lady 1: Why use sea salt? Sea salt is superior to regular salt because it has minerals in it. And you can tell a really good sea salt by actually by putting it in your hand, and a really good sea salt will still have some moisture in it, and you’ll be able to see a little gray or gray and black flex in it and those are the minerals.
Celtic salt is a really good sea salt and Celtic salt guarantees you they’re 16 percent minerals which is a lot, and because our soil is kind of depleted of minerals these days, it’s good to have those extra minerals in your food. It’s good. Also, the regular stuff that you buy, the iodized sea salt, it’s iodized. And what does that mean? They add iodine to it. And the iodine can discolor it so that it needs to be bleached and it can also make it cake up so they need to add anti-caking agents and you don’t need all that stuff in your salt.
Guy: Why do they add iodine to it?
Lady 1: Well, the, oh yeah, because I don’t, it’s weird. Because some people in the middle of the country weren’t getting any sea food? You know because they are not near coast. And so they didn’t have any iodine in their diet and when you’re totally devoid of iodine in your diet… (Goiter.) Yeah, the big, yeah.
Guy: And so they added it to salt, why did they bleach it?
Lady 1: Because the iodine discolors it.
Guy: Is Celtic salt like from Ireland or something because of the brand?
Lady 1: It’s from Ireland. (Really?) I don’t know. (Ok, anyway.) He’s cute, isn’t he?
