Hi. This is Mike Callahan, Dr. File Finder and welcome to your butterscotch.com special five part series on the Windows Registry tips and tricks.
In this first segment, we’re going to look at what the Windows Registry is. Here on the page on Wikipedia, you can see that the Windows registry is basically a database. And in this database that is the registry, you stored all of the settings and options, All the information about programs and devices, information about your printer, your preferences. Everything that pertains to your computer, running the Windows operating system is contained in the registry.
Here’s the registry. It’s made up of several main groups, root, user, local machine, users and current config. And within all of these separate divisions; it can be found all the information about your system.
It is safe to edit the registry, safe to make changes to the registry. But it’s wise to have an understanding of the registry, what the registry is and is capable of, what it does and does not do, be able to take some precaution before you edit the registry.
And in this five part series, we’re going to look at the registry editor editing the registry and even how to restore if your registry should have become corrupt.
So we’re going to give you this tips and tricks. Remember this is a multi-part series. So be sure to look for all of the parts. And that’s all there is to it.
